Can't contact outgoing mail server through router?

Thanks to you guys I now have two winXP PCs connecting to Tiscali Broadband through a Netgear DG834G router. They can both receive e-mail sucessfully (via seperate Freeserve accounts, one through Outlook 2003 and the other Outlook Express)but they can't always connect to the outgoing server (smtp.freeserve.com)and then can only send mail to certain addresses - others get rejected and left in the outbox.

The router settings are still on default (except for changing admin password)as I havn't had time to read up on security etc.

Any ideas anybody?

Also... if I connect using the old Freeserve dial-up connection, e-mail will connect and send no problem - so presumably e-mail settings are okay?
