cant connect 2nd laptop to internet

I connect to the internet via a usb modem on my main PC. I also have a wirless router (Netgear WGR614v4) & has worked fine for connecting a laptop to a VPN.
Now I have another laptop to connect through wireless router to the 'normal' internet not the VPN. This new laptop connects to the wireless network but internet explorer cant find the internet and brings up 'this page cant be displayed' etc
Other half thinks the VPN is a problem but Im lost.
help would be much appreciated

I see some potentially major problems here: your router is a cable router, but you appear to be using it with an ADSL modem. I suspect this because cable modems use the Ethernet interface, not USB. I cannot see how you could possibly be connecting these devices together. click here, look at System Requirements at the bottom of the page and you'll see what I mean.
