Can't burn to CD/DVD

I'm trying to burn some photos to a disc, but every time I put a new CD or DVD in the drive it scans the disc and shows that there is no space available on the disc.

I've tried loads of different discs with the same result.

I have previously had to format discs, but thought that this was no longer required, and in fact can't find any way to perform this.

I'm running XP still.

Any ideas?

Are you using the built-in XP version?

If so, check from My Computer>D drive (or whatever letter your burner is using>Properties>Recording tab that Allow CD recordings on this drive is Enabled.

By the way, XP will only burn to CD media.

You shouldn't need to format disks - it's basically if you wish to use a Rewritable disk as a form of hard drive.
