Hi I was trying to do a Virus scan in DOS, however I needed to go into safe mode with command prompts but when I followed the options into safe mode and when pressed enter on the Xp home thing the screen was full of writing that started with 'multi(0)disk...'. After the writing went away and the system restarted and it loaded the usual login screen without going into safe mode with command prompts. I even tried going into the normal safe mode but the same thing happened. What has happened to my pc? Please help me!! This is the website that the instructions are from..

If able, boot with your XP disc and enter the recovery console. Then type chkdsk c: /r (press enter), note the spaces.
