Can't back up to disc on Dell Studio 1737

I have just received my new Dell laptop, its excellent except every time I put a disc in to do a back up (as recommended) it says the disc is not black, IT IS! I have made sure its a blank disc and even formatted it to make sure, so why won't it work? Any help would be much appreciated

If youve formatted the disk,its not then blank.

Is it asking for a cd or dvd?Maybe you could try another brand.Im sure someone will come up with the answer.

Can't understand why my lap top won't back up files to a disc, I've made sure its blank bit it keeps saying the disc is not blank so I have tried 3 different discs, same problem, I am confused!

What disk type and brand are you using? And are you using DVDs? If so do you have a DVD writer?

Various types and brands of dvd's and yes, I believe it has a dvd writer

I meant what type of disk - which of these for example?

DVD-R DVD+R (recordable only once)

DVD-RW DVD+RW, (rewritable many times)

They are DVD+RW
