For some time now I cant update windows or IE. I'm running XP home and I get a cant display this page message. I cant even access Microsoft.com - same message. I have turned on everything relevant in services and dont believe I have any viruses.

Try going to command prompt and type in ipconfig /flushdns.Then press enter on the keyboard. It should tell you dns cache has been flushed if so reboot and see if it makes any difference.

See if there's any more information (or another error code) on your problem in your Windows Update.log. The Update.log entries are in chronological order and your most recent experience will be at the bottom of the list.

C:\Windows\Windows Update.log

Are you updating via "Windows Update" tool or direct from website ?

If you are using "Windows Update" tool try directstrong text from website

If you also can't connect to microsoft.com, either, then check your firewall or other 'blocking' security program. If nothing found try downloading free malwarebytes ,update and run a full scan.

Also check that a proxy server has not been enabled. Tools- internet options- connections tab- lan settings and untick the box (if ticked) for use a proxy server for.... .
