can't access ie pages

  Tony 08:15 05 Aug 06

With a D-Link DSL-G604T broadband router I access the internet from two PCs in the house. They run XP Pro which detects the wired conection and loads pages with no problems as I don't want a formal network.

My new VAIO Laptop came preloaded with XP Home. The wired and wireless connections work but IE will not load pages. Where is the setting that may be wrong?

Many thanks for any help.

the windows time will synchronise so I must be accessing the internet.

I turned off the windows and the preloaded Norton IS firewalls.

Is IE set to use your LAN?

Obvious, yes, but so many people fail to check it.

Are all internet-enabled programs affected?

Why on earth were you using two firewalls?!

the laptop came with the firewalls turned on.

Other programs can access the internet - as long as they don't need IE

still struggling

the ie internet options say never dial a connection and lan settings detect settings automatically.

Any ideas please?

Check the security and privacy settings in IE

I restored them to defaults.

Should that work?

It should, but whether it does . . .

I can't hack IE, but if I have to use it, I put the gateway IP into the Trusted Sites zone, just to be on the safe side.
