Can't access IE.

I have been unable to access IE for the last couple of weeks.
On startup and any time I try to launch IE manually I receive a prompt entitled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" "Runtime Error!" "Program; C;\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information".
I've tried system restore, which works initially, though when I close IE I receive the prompt when I try to launch it again.
I'm currently accessing the web through Outlook and have downloaded Mozilla.
I've tried using "last good configuration" from the setup menu, though with no success.
I've also tried downloading a new IE from Microsoft, though this says there's a newer version already installed and setup cannot continue.
Can anyone help?
