Canon Pixma MP250 Printer paper jam problem

My Canon printer has recently broken down. It did work fine for a month or so after purchase but now insists it has a paper jam. It pulls the paper down from the tray about an inch but then stops although the printer continues to make noise as if its going through the motions of printing, except without actually pulling the paper through the rollers. It then says it has a paper jam, although I can find no jammed paper in it. I've tried cleaning the rollers to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix?

Had the same problem with the 220 model a while ago, it turned out to be the tiniest sliver of paper [slightly] wrapped around the inside of the printer. I couldn't believe it had caused the problem.
