I have an IBM thinkpad with pentium2 128mb memory running windows XPpro. I have set screen blanker to none but it still kicks in and if i am away for any length of time, i cant allways get the screen back. If i am writing letters and have to leave off for any reason, i have to save it just in case the screen blanks and i cant get it back.

and I would like to be able to provide a definitive answer - but I can't.

One client of mine had exactly the same experience, and I found that I could always restore the screen by pressing the lid switch - it's worth a try.
