cannot search in excell

i have entered a number of client details into an excell spreadsheet.
Each cleints names and corresponding reference number is listed in fields.
occasionaly i need to search for a particular name however the find facility will not allow this.
It will not find any name in the sheet at all.
Could you please help me with this proble.

Well i do not get an error but it simply says not found.

If you are searching for the name Brown (as an example), try typing in *bro*

You could try auto filter

Select all active cells (A1 > Ctrl+Alt+End) then Data > Filter > Auto Filter then search the name in the drop down list.

Sorry should have mentioned then you can do a custom search.

EG - equals B* for Brown etc
