Cannot save b&w photo as jpg in CS2

I have recently been 'cleaning up' some old b&w photos for a friend using a scanner and editing using Photoshop CS2 (OS is Vista).
I wanted to email a copy of the modified pics in jpg format prior to printing but found that the option for saving the pics was reduced (only psd, psb, raw, pdf, png and tiff)
I have not had this happen previously and wonder whether I have done something different - can anyone shed some light on how to get round the problem?

I use CS4 now, but I suspect you have left a layer open. Suggest you go to layer, then flatten image. You should then have a .jpg option . You could keep the original as psd as well in case you want to edit the changes.

Many thanks Eedcam for pointing me in the right direction - conversion to 8 bit gives you the extra file extensions.
Not sure why I had 16 bit in the first place!

Thanks for replying john b - my layers were closed anyway when I was trying to save.
