Hi Sony laptop did not shut down properly. At start up tries to run scandisk but fails and tells me to use system restore as recently installed programme caused a fault. Cannot use systems restore as tells me to run scan disk! Have used prompt command which tells me that drive is dirty. have used CHKNTFS/x C: which clears the scandisk at start up. However when I type chkdsk/c/r c: it tells me that the disk is in use and do I want to schedule scandisk at next start up. If I say Y then at start up says cannot run autorun etc, so back to square one!

Any advise to get scandisk and systems restore working again would be appreciated?

Thank you

Have you tried System Restore in SAFE Mode?

Many ths for advice.

Managed to run scandisk in safemode via prompt command. Found an error and said fixed. Rebooted but still cannot run scandisk on start up. Still telling me cannot run autocheck and also in command prompt tells me c is dirty! I did run a sony/segate deep check of drive and it found no errors. Any further advice please?
