I used to be able to rename files in any of my files that were in my docs. Now when i try to rename i get a message " if you change file extension the file may become unusable" Can any one tell me how i can rectify this?

In Windows Explorer, Tools/Folder Options

Untick "Hide extensions for known file types".

You will then be able to see if you are inadvertently trying to change the file extension.
