Cannot recover data from Win NTBackup file

  dwfc 18:16 01 Oct 04

I am unable to recover files from a backup file created by NTBackup in WinXP. When starting the restore process the following error message is displayed:

"The backupfile contains unrecognised data and cannot be used"

Does any one have any suggestions, other than to request the services of a data recovery specialist organisation or to purchase data recovery software, both of which may be very expensive options for a one off home use.

Did you backup to CD? If so copy the backup file from the CD to the hard drive and restore from

Thinking about this, did you format the machine before trying to run the .BKF? If you have gone from FAT32 to NTFS you will have to take ownership of the files. click here

If the above does not apply have you used a 3rd party backup prog to create the backup?
