cannot read cd's on 'D' drive

i upgraded my laptop OS from 98 to professional XP. Now when i put in an audio or other CD nothing shows up. It is as if there is no CD inserted in the drive. PLEASE HELP ME

could be a couple of things....upgrading to XP pro from 98 could be a problem, it was for mine, I had to upgrade to ME first, then XP pro. Double Left click on the My Computer icon on the desktop...does it show a cd drive there?


you might want to expand on the hardware details to get more of a responce, the first thing is to instal the drivers for your drive, if its via a PCMCIA card you will need to install the socket services etc. first.
