cannot play dvds or cds on my matshita dvd drive

my mat*!@:a dvd drive will not play back it records no bother but it wont play back

May need head cleaning or may be a damaged head. If this is a desktop, cheap enough to replace - can get quite decent stuff under £20.

try uninstalling the drive and reboot the driver may be corrupted

also check dma status

"wont play back". Do you mean it won't play music or video recordings, or it can't read any disks, even data files?

its my laptop its a tiny so got no support from them it does just seem to be data discs that it ont open it recognises them in my comp but it just wont open if i try to explore disc it just puts desktop screen up i tried to do a reload the other day but was told the disc which i got with rthe comp was not compatable with the system i wonder if it was because it wasnt getting read .i tried uninsalling that hasnt worked where do i check dma status thanx for all the help people

right click - My computer - select properties- hardware tab - device manager.

click on the ide controllers - right click primary channel -select properties - advance settings tab.

do the same for the secondary controller.
