Cannot open Internet Explorer?

I recently acquired a new computer (albeit used), with Windows XP and Internet Explorer version 5 installed. I am having problems opening Internet Explorer directly – each time I click on the icon a small screen keeps coming up - "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close".

I have sent the error report and used the IE repair system and even loaded in IE version 6 SP1 all to no avail. Can anyone please advise what may be wrong and how to resolve it?

Regards, John H.Smith.

I don't know how IE5 is on a Windows XP machine...

Have you tried a repair: click here

Or perhaps try a reinstall of XP.
