Since installing Windows 2000 I cannot install the software for my DVD-drive or for my CD-Writer.When I switch on my computer the drives are recognised correctly by name but when I look in my computer they are only referred to as cd-drives.I have tried uninstalling the drives and then installing through the new hardware wizard but still wasn`t recognised.Just in case this is important I cannot install my scanner software because the computer say`s that Idon`t have a scanner connected

Right click the My Computer icon and select Management.
Click on device manager and see if any of the devices have any exclamation marks or stop signs next to them. You might need to expand them all to see.

This will tell you if you need to update any drivers or if any of your devices are malfunctioning

DVD and CD drives dont need device drivers, there icons should change once they have had a DVD or a CD-R in them.

You need to go to manufacturers sit for specific 2000 drivers update patch maybe

  woodchip 21:56 18 Aug 03

No but the software does need the drivers to communicate with drives that's why there may be a patch at the site as Nero or Roxio, The latest software may support the drives

CD/DVD-ROM drives and rewriters only require the basic Windows drivers - it may be that the software is not compatible with Win 2000; as woodchip suggests the manufacturers' websites may offer updated or upgraded versions.
