Cannot find server

Without having made any changes to the settings on my Windows 98 PC, I have suddenly become unable to connect to the Internet. When I try to, the modem goes through the usual sequence, I get the ‘connected to remote computer message’ on screen, then, after a pause ‘cannot find server’ – this happens with whichever ISP I use. The phone connection is fine, the send/receive leds flash on my (external) modem, which implies that it is working properly too. In desperation, I tried reformatting the computer but this has not helped either. Any ideas?

If you have made no changes turn your firewall off and see if you can log onto the net if so your security could be set to high check also your cookies is enabled in explorer.
