Cannot find External Hard Drive on Desk Top

Have just bought an external Lacie 160gb Harddrive for Firewire (6/6 pin).

Although everything shows as working fine on the xp operating system - nothing appears on the desktop or through explorer. Hard drive is working and you can hear it spinning on boot up.

Unplug/plug in and you hear a beep but nothing appears on the screen.

If this is plug and play as described by the manufacture - why do they supply drivers for xp?

Do you need to create a shortcut for the desktop?

have you tried it on another pc?

I am sure you must know a mann who also has firewire.

It should appear as "E" there.

I just bought a lacie external hard drive ( firewire) and mine shows as E drive lacie under my computer heading. xp automatically instals drivers.
