Cannot delete desktop file

I have a file/program/icon on my desktop which I no longer want. When I try to delete the it I get the following message:

Could Not Find This Item

This is no longer located in C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop. Verify the items location and try again.

Could someone shed a little light as to how to resolve this?

Hi restart computer and start tapping the F8 key and go into safe mode and see if you can delete it then!

The icon is Replay Video Capture which I have deleted.
I have tried deleting it in safe mode and the icon doesn't appear to be there?

Probable explanation -

It did actually get deleted the first time - but the desktop did not update to show it gone (that does happen sometimes in Win). Hence the "Could Not Find This Item" message.

Quick way to refresh the desktop - right-click on it - choose "Refresh" from the menu, or press F5

Of course any other action (eg restarting, etc) which refreshes the desktop will show it gone too.
