I have just recently bought a new notebook which has windows 7 (starter) and i cannot for the life of me connect wirelessly to my livebox (i can connect through the cable).

at first i couldnt get the installation cd to work until i opened it using the troubleshoot compatibilty option. finally everything loaded and configured etc and i have full signal, but when i try and connect it says windows was unable to connect to livebox, without having asked for a password or anything.

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

IF the Livebox is switched off or powered down then it resets to it factory settings.

If you can connect to the livebox BUT NOT get any web pages to open you need to cahange the security setting in the live box.

To change the setting

1. Connect to the live box with an ethernet cable.

2. click here or type http:// configuration.adsl/ (without the space) in your browser address line.

3. you will now be connected to the livebox click on "Access to the configuration pages (access to these pages is restricted, you must have the password)."

4. Input the username and password (admin for both if you have not changed it)

5. Click Configuration - Advanced - Wireless

6. You will see that it is set to WPA or WEP security click and set to WPA security only

7. Click submit and wait for the livebox to reset itself.

8. Disconnect the ethernet cable and you now should be able to connect by wireless

i cant open the link from step 2, copying pasting and removing the space doesnt work either

  lola_123 17:57 14 Mar 10

i have now changed it to wpa only, and it now asks me for a security key, and even though i am sure i am typing it right (i have tried several times both with spaces and without), it still says it cannot connect

Try a new password and copy and paste it into the password field. You could try deleting your old profile too.

  rizlo29 18:33 14 Mar 10

It says media disconnected on your wireless adaptor. Does it still say that if you pull out t he Ethernet cable and do the ipconfig/all command?

Anyway, try this to fix registry keys. click here

Hi, when you are connecting wirelessly to a Livebox for the first time, you need to press and hold button 1 (at the back of the Livebox) until the wee wireless symbol starts flashing. It will flash for about 10 mins and during that time you should be connect. You only have to this the first time. Good luck

thanks to all for your help. the solution was change it from WPA to WEP in configuration, press the button to get the wireless button to flash and then enter the security key in without spaces. Even though in the registration part of installation it wont accept it without spaces!
