Cannot connect to other computers

My existing setup is as follows:
Main computer wireless with netgear. This is linked wired to a second computer.
Laptop is connected wireless ( Netgear USB adaptor)
These 3 computers can all connect to each other with no problems.Connecting to the internet(AOL) via the Netgear router.

I have just purchased a new laptop wifi enabled.
Try as I may, it cannot see the other 3 computers, and vice versa.
Funnily enough it picks up network which is not mine.
I have not yet set this new laptop up for internet use ( I will install AOL tomorrow.)
I have checked and double checked all the settings etc and run the network set up wizard.
I have now run out of options and would appreciate any help please.
When I click on the network card it shows as "no connection)
