Cannot change homepage on IE7

  etlcnes 13:13 02 Dec 06

Hi there - hope someone out there can help me with this one. Doing a clean up on sister-in-laws machine and cannot seem to change the homepage on IE - whenever I change it, apply it, and reboot it reverts to click here

Any ideas as to the problem

Set up is Dell 3100 Running XP XP2

Choose whichever you want from the list (usually keep current provider) and continue.

All I get is a blue screen (no not of death) but there is no list to choose from

When IE7 was installed was the anti virus disabled as required?

If all was well before IE7 try an uninstall, it will roll back to IE6 and a reinstall. One final thought if IE7 has old add ons like toolbars try disabling them to see if it runs OK.

To disable go to tools, manage add ons and disable. If all is well then I suggest a complete clear out and re install of add ons like tool bars.

I would guess that one of her security programs has "Lock IE Homepage" ticked (F-Secure does this for me)

Good thinking, Spybot also does it.

Will try these and see how I get on - one day my nephew will learn not to install things on this damned machine!!!
