Can you upgrade a microprocesser

I have just had NTL broadband installed and fool that I am I did'nt check my systems requirements it has a 200Mhz processer and 48MB of ram but needs 266Mhz or higher and 128MB of ram can I upgrade without buying a new pc.

Cheaper and easier to upgrade the whole lot.

Well actually buy new, nothing fancy...

Finiding ancient components will have to be 2nd hand on the likes of E-bay. Search the online retailers for 266Mhz and you'll find none.

You can probably get away with a new mobo, processor and memory. But by the time you've finished, it might be better to do as Powerless suggests - you can get a reasonable spec (it'll seem terrific against your old one) for less than £500, or even cheaper for a replacement base unit.
