I 've bought a ACer aspire M3201 AMD X4 for xmas which included a VGA input screen ACER x193W . I want to ocnnect a second screen but the second port svailable on the PC graphics card is HDMI .

Friends and PC world say yes you can use a VGA LCD screen with the HDMI using simple adapters ( note not signal convertors) yet I can't find a combination of adapters that will allow it.

Can you connect a VGA monitor to an HDMI source or do I need to buy a DVI Input monitor instead .

PC world say ye s( twice) , MAplins say no - OUr IT guys say yes . IF you can how do I do it.
MAny thanks

Ask PC World if they have the adaptors

Check to make sure that you do not have a DVI connector as you can buy a DVI to HDMI connector for around £10. This should work with VGA to HDMI at £50+extra lead.......click here

ps..if you phone/email the company in the advert and explain exactly what you need, you will find that they are very helpful.

Re; Jack: "It is called CLUB with a whitc cross on a red ground inside the curve of the 'C'

I knew nothing about HDMI/DVI/VGA until I started this but to me the CLUB adapter you show is actually VGA to DVI . ( DVI -Digital /Analog/or INtegrated I can't tell ) . Useful link here

Can I thank you all for your prompt responses and sound advice . After my 3 day odyssey around umpteen PC mega-stores staffed clearly by vacuum cleaner specialists - I now know my first port of call should always be this forum.

I'm off to collect a sizeable credit note from Argos and exchange the VGA monitor for a DVI input one.

Cheers
