can psu cope

hi, i have a compaq presario 1909uk,amd64 3500+, i have upgraded to 2 gig ddr added a 160gb slave drive and added nvidea g force 7600gt, i still have original 300watt psu, my question is how would i know if psu is struggling? my new graphics vard advises 250 watt main psu 300 watt recomended if that help, btw this forum has been totally priceless to me thank you all

If it's stable when playing games then the psu is coping. Unexpected restarts or crashes to the desktop are signs of a psu not being able to adequately power a graphics card.

Quality of psu is more important than headline max power output. Antec, seasonic, coolermaster etc are names to go for.

thanks for your help, after reading i was playing on line golf and system kept locking up for a couple of seconds, so have upgraded to 450 watt which seems ok but will have to get used to sound of the bigger fan! thanks again
