Can Microsoft Messenger Be Safely Removed From XP

I cannot get rid of this annoyiny icon from my bottom right taskbar.

open windows/msn messenger and click tools/options/preferences untick "run when windows starts" and "allow to run in background"

now it will only start if you want it to.

or if you prefer to remove Windows Messenger manually, click Start, Run and enter (copy and paste) the following command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
