Can I use my existing XP Home on new computer

I am thinking of upgrading my computer system and the shop tells me I must buy a new XP Disc. This seems a waste when I already have a licensed XP Home disc for my old machine. Can I get the licence transferred for free?

If you remove XP from your old machine, yes.

Was it a machine with XP pre-installed by the manufacturer (OEM) if so technically the shop was telling the truth those licences are tied to the original machine

If you have a Full XP disc it will work. But as Vog says you should remove it from old computer

It will not Work with a Restore Disc

As above say, no need to ask permission, just load it on new machine and when ready go on-line and click on activate, it will without a problem.

Thanks to all. I'll give it a go.
