Can i Upgrade the RAM?

  Legslip 22:11 28 Nov 05

I have an old TIME PC with an x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping GenuineIntel 799 processor running Win 2000 Pro. with 128gb RAM. Can I upgrade this to 256 or even 512gb Ram? Dont know the motherboard. Loaded SiSoft Sandra Lite but it would not run. Don't know why.

Is there a sticker on the back of the case with a model number on?

Skyver. Dont think the Crucial site answered the question unless I'm using it wrong. It is just that I've been told that this processor will only support 256 Ram!!
Will look tomorrow SideCar sid. Ta!

It's not so much the processor as the number of slots on the motherboard for memory chips, and the maximum capacity of the chips themselves. Although 256mb is an unusually low maximum I must admit.

Try using the System Scanner click here or the "Memory Advisor Tool" from that link that Skyver posted, Legslip.

That looks like an 800MHz Pentium III.

I can't see why it wouldn't do up to 512Mb.

Try Everest click here to see your proper system specs.

Thanks people. Going to try Everest and see if I van find details of the Mboard. It has four slots for memory so still believe it should take 512 but want to make sure.
