Can I upgrade my laptop DVD/CD drive?

  as400man 18:02 01 Apr 04

My latop uses a standard laptop-size tray to house a DVD/CD ROM. Can I replace it easily with a DVD/CD-R unit? The laptop is not a well known make so I am looking for a 'universal' unit.
Any ideas or tips?

Thanks and regards

Does it have a USB socket? If so, you could buy an exteranl one.

Well known or not you could try looking for the manufacturers web site to see if there are any upgrades available.

Have a look to see who made the installed drive, my FIC laptop has a generic Toshiba Laptop CD drive, so in theory upgrading should be possible if you can source the replacement.

AubreyS. Yes I do have USB connections but I would prefer a built in solution if possible.
Otherwise I will go the way you suggest.

Satmansq. No joy on the manufacturer's site.

Thanks both for taking an interest.
