Can I upgrade my Dell 3100 with an Asus graphics card ?

My PC is a Dell Dimension 3100 and my digital video will not play correctly, it's jumpy. My motherboard uses on board graphics but I have a spare expansion slot and I am planning to fit an Asus ATI Radeon 5450 HD 1GB PCI-Express 2.1 HDMI graphics card. Can anybody please advise me if these parts are compatible ? I've heard Dell can be dodgy to update with 'foreign' parts. Thanks B.J.

The Dell Dimension 3100 has no AGP or PCIE x16 slot. Your suggested card is not compatible with that motherboard. If you can find one your only option is a PCI card.

Thanks chub but I don't understand. I typed into Amazon PCI graphics card and the Asus 5450 came up. B.J.

There is a big difference between PCI and PCIe (also known as PCI Express). Take a look at Google to see the physical difference. PCI expansion slots for graphics cards are little used nowadays, they were replaced first by AGP and now by PCIe. I doubt if you will find a new PCI Graphics card nowadays and used ones will all be of relatively low memory.
