I would like to create a recording of my daughter playing her flute to send to her brother in New Zealand, does anyone know of a way I can do this using XP and Windows media player?

You need to record the playing as a wave file or mp3 file onto your hard drive then burn it onto a CD.

Sound recorder only has a short time space.

Try one of these free programs

Music / wave editing:-

dBpoweramp click here

There may be software with your sound card that permits you to record onto HDD. My quite old SoundBlaster, for instance, came with "SoundOle".

Then, as Fruit Bat /\0/\ says, you can burn it onto a CD.

Another way is to send recording (once saved on hdd) via e-mail, as Attachment. I have tried this on mine using Inredimail, worked ok.
Obviously best with broadband.
