Can I do a system restore from Safe Mode ?

Oh dear - I seem to have messed up my new computer. I downloaded Avast antivirus and the computer has frozen up after the required rebooting.

I already had EZ Trust AV on there as a trial copy supplied by Evesham, which I was going to delete after installing Avast. But all I've succeeded in doing is freezing the computer. Windows loads to desktop, but I cant access any programs or the Start window.

Can I access System Restore by booting into Safe Mode?

Your best bet is to restart and keep tapping the F8 key just before the Windows screen appears and select Command Prompt.

At the > prompt type

C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and press the Enter key.

Yes, I believe it is an option when you boot into safe mode.

Thanks people - you certainly can - I used VOG's method and I have restored successfully.

Must remember to uninstall EZ Trust AV before trying to install Avast again.
