Can I delete Office/Recent links

In C\Winows\Application Data\Microsoft\Office \Recent folder, there is a list of links going back a couple of years.

I assume that I can safely delete them, but I'd be grateful if someone would be good enough to confirm this. I can't understand why they should be there if they don't serve any purpose.

Copy them into a new folder and move elsewhere,if all runs well for a couple of months then just delete the folder.

This is the folder that holds the links to files opened by the user and shows in

Select ... 'Start' .... 'Documents'

It is a 'shortcut' to re open these files and is not really necessary and just use disk space.

You can clear ALL links in the 'recent' folder by selecting

'Taskbar & Start Menu'

'Start Menu Programs'
