Can cookies carry viruses?

As the title implies, can they?

The reason I ask is because I have just had my first ever on-screen virus alert. (seriously!)

I was visiting a web site at the request of the thread starter, via a link, from the new webdesign forum. Before the page had even finished loading, I got the alert, and could only think of cookies as I wasn't knowingly downloading anything.

what was the web site?

Thanks for that, I didn't know it could happen that way. I'm glad myAV is a good one... PCCillin.

I didn't really want to mention the site because he's a regular helper on this forum, but maybe he doesn't know.

By the way, I went back to the site for a second look and confirmation, but the alert didn't activate. The virus was in my quarentine area though and could not be cleaned so I deleted it.
