Make sure you're fully up to date with the Windows critical updates and also your virus definitions.

Sounds like the MSblaster virus.

See other threads for solution.

I have all the latest norton 2003 software and it is all up to date ran virus scans nothing found.

So I don't think it is a virus.

Have you got the patch installed from Powerless's second click here?

If you AV is up to date but your don't have the patch then the virus might still be trying to get onto your PC. Hence the message.

Even the Symantec website says "This signature detects an exploit that overflows a buffer in the Microsoft DCOM RPC service."

This HAS to be the virus attempting (but failing) to get onto your PC.

Get the patch now - click here

When you say you keep getting attacked do you mean your firewall is alerting you ? If so it's doing what it's supposed to.

Turn DCOM off, you dont need it anyway.

  Hitch-Hiker 16:10 23 Aug 03

Yes you are right the firewall is doing its job and seems to be doing it well.

I would like to know if the is any way of stopping the cause?

I am running win 98 se2 so do I need to worry about the blaster virus as I was told it will not effect this system

Hmm maybe your PC is still being scanned.

Although you don't need to be patched another infected PC can still scan your PC. Its these scans that are being picked up.

You either have to live with it for now or find a way to switch the alerts off.
