Can 6600gt graphics card support 20" TFT?

Under the advanced display settings tab it shows that I can only go up to a maximum of 1280 x 1024, which is the default resolution on the 19" tft I am using. If I get a 20" tft does that mean I have to run it below the ideal resolution?

No.

If you right click on the Desktop>Properties>Advanced button>Adapter tab>List All Modes, all the colour/resolution/refresh rates supported by your graphics card will be displayed.

You can highlight a chosen combination and select it by clicking on the line - ensure that Windows doesn't have to reboot.

You only need a refresh rate (normally) of 60MHz for TFT monitors.

Stuartli, thanks, I read your reply yesterday to a similiar question.

The highest my card supports is 1280 x 1024 according to the list all modes tab, which is what I am currently using on a 19"

So do I need to upgrade my graphics card if I want a 20" tft with a 1680 x 900 resolution?

I'm absolutely sure it will - my 5200 (older model than yours - and the most basic one in the 5xxx series) will go up to 2048x1536.

Possibly you need the latest nvidia driver, rather than just the standard Windows driver.

I just installed the latest driver (49mb) but the max res is still the same, 1280 x 1024..

If on the Monitor tab - I ticvk the box "Hide all modes my minitor cannot display" - then my adapter will only show up to 1280x1024 - which is the max for this monitor.

So this is the box you need to untick - on the monitor tab.

DieSse, thanks a lot. I have just unticked the box and now I also get 2048x1536

Rest assured that your 6600GT will support the majority of monitors you throw at it - even my modest Radeon 9550 would cope comfortably with your proposed monitor replacement.
