I did have a calender on my PC before I had more memory, a DVD writer and more usb ports added. I have also had a problem with Mozilla Firefox which has been resolved. Have Windows XP.
Is there a calender which I can install and use to keep a record of appointments etc.

None of the changes you've listed would have deleted a calendar, so it should still be in the program files if you look.
If however you want a new one, my preference is EssentialPIM Free 2.81 click here

Thank you Belatucadrus, sunnystaines and Gongoozler for your replies.
Have decided to use Mozilla Sunbird as it is similar to the one I had originally.
