cable select on a cd-rom drive ???

hi, just got a cd-rom drive for the daughters PC running win95, the other one went down the kermit, on the jumper settings, it has..master,slave and cable select..the one i took out has the jumper on cable select,but in the instruction leaflet there is no mention of cable select..now to the point, about time i hear you cry........what is cable select?...

Using cable select and an 80way IDE cable the status of the drive (Master/Slave) is determined by which connector on the cable is plugged into the drive. End connector is Master and middle connector is Slave.

You also need a motherboard that supports Cable Select.

Best to stick to the standard setups as it will make solving any problems you may have in the future that bit easier.
