cable select on a cd-rom drive ???

hi, just got a cd-rom drive for the daughters PC running win95, the other one went down the kermit, on the jumper settings, it has..master,slave and cable select..the one i took out has the jumper on cable select,but in the instruction leaflet there is no mention of cable select..now to the point, about time i hear you cry........what is cable select?...

Cable select: allows the PC to decide if the drive is a master or slave.

If it is on the same ide channel as the hdd, then it has to be slave. If on another, alone, then set as master.
