Cable Modem into an ADSL Router?

Having moved from a house where I used an ADSL router with Orange which shared my connection wirelessly, to a Virgin Media house which now uses a Cable Modem, my question is can I plug my Cable Modem into an ethernet port in my ADSL router and still share the internet connection wirelessly? My early experiments would indicate NO! I can get the internet connection wired but nothing else subsequently plugged into the ADSL router (such as an Xbox) can. Do I have to invest in a wireless router - seems like a waste if I do? Any tips greatly appreciated.

What you are trying will not work, you do need a new wireless router for use on cable only, I have always found this to be reliable and if price is of concern, well then it is not expensive. click here

Any one of these will do the job click here I have been using the Linksys WRT54g now for about 2 years without any problems, 1 wired and 2 wireless.
