What c-media device? As I understand, c-media is a type of audio hardware.

c-media is the AC97 onboard sound driver. What are you trying to do exactly? Does your computer have no sound or something?

You shouldn't keep opening new threads on the same subject - it helps no one.

C-Media sound chipsets are available in both onboard and PCI form from several manufacturers.

Did you download the correct driver for your model?

If it is an onboard sound chipset (most likely) is the system Enabled for onboard sound in the Bios?

Not only should you not start multiple threads on the same subject but you should not email anyone unless they ask you to do so. If you've anything to say, say it here so others can see whats going on.

By email "i have had my computers hard drive wiped and re-installed but i now have no sound.i was advised to down load c-media ac97 audio but it now says this device cannot start, any help as i am a complete novice, step by step help would be good.many thanks dr hands."

Get whoever wiped it to fix it is my advice.
