Buying advice - i3 or i5??

Hi - time for a new PC for a 12 yr old - homework, games, internet and hopefully something to take him through the next 4 to 5 years!

I find the processor comparison a bit of a pain though - can you help?

An i3-3220 machine comes in at £360

An i5-3470 comes in at £410

and

An i5-2500K (this is the same as my machine) is £450

Not sure if the dual core i3 will suffice? Also, need to know whether the i5-3470 compares with the i5-2500K. I am out of touch with processors nowadays and need some help here please.

I know much relies on the motherboard and the system built around the processor - but the spec for that lot is much the same.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I would not bother with the i5 2500K as although it is a cracking processor the K version is more for those who want to overclock.

You mention gaming but don't mention what type of games as this will have a bearing on the type of graphics card needed.
