burning a vcd

help... I have a few avi films on my h.d. which I need to burn to cd/dvd.
They are only small files(aprox 700-800 mb each).
I have tried nero/easy cd creator 6/tmpgenc/vcd easy to no avail.all say cannot open file or unsupported format.Anybody any ideas???
