burning cd

I've had no problem in the past burning music cds now however both nero and WMP refuse to recognise a blank cd in the cd or dvd drives and I'm using the same cd-r.disks. WMP tells me to insert a disk and Nero just ejects the disk already in the drive.I can play music and video disks and Device manager tells me the device is working normally.Drivers are fully up to date.Any ideas ......... thanks

Try Uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and re-booting.

Windows will Find New Hardware and reinstall the basic CDROM drivers.

It could just, however, be a case of the optical drive's laser having gone kaput.

Dust inside the cd drive might be preventing recognition - give it a good wipe with a lint-free cloth

Is the cd drive recognising other discs okay when you put them in?

Try a different cd drive (if you have a 2 drive system) or connect an external cd drive via USB.

Have you tried a different cdr from your stack? Maybe the one you tried is faulty or slightly scratched. You could try cleaning it with a cd wipe.
