Burner Problem

My DVD Burner has developed a strange problem. When burning is complete, either in Nero or DVD Fab, the program indicates that burning has completed, but the discs are unplayable, AND the disc contents are shown as a series of dashes, not the names I have chosen.
Any ideas please?

Hmm, not come across this one before - but at a guess, I would suspect that your DVD ROM Drive has developed a fault, or at the very least that the DVD Lens needs cleaning.

PS - if it had only happened in one of the mentioned programs, I might have suspected a corrupt program needing to be re-installed, but as it has been the same with two different programs that is why I suspect the Drive itself.

Thanks Technotiger, I was afraid of that. I've tried uninstalling the drive via Device manager, and rebooting, but that made no difference.

Then I guess it means a new drive is in order!

does it read okay?

You could also see try a Firmware update for the drive if there is one

Thanks Technotiger & woodchip. I'll try that. I actually have two burners and they are both performing like that!!

sometihng more fundamental than a brocken drive.
try 'rattling' all the ribbon data cables for starters.
Wh en uninstalling software use either the softwares own unistall function or one of the free ones such as click here

or go to

or even Ccleaner
for a total uninstall aand cleanup

I don't think 2 optical drives can fail like that - unless it is a coincidence!

Can you try burning with the drives in another working computer? G

Yes it does sound like Faulty Ribbon or Motherboard Dry Joint
