Was thinking of getting this kit. Are the specs any good? Has anyone used them before? Seems a good buy at £99.99.

Cost you extra if you want to put XP on it.

Are the specs any good?

What do you want to do with it?

Its a very basic kit, with 80G drive, Celeron CPU, 1G RAM

Be wary. I reckon it will work, just, but unless you have a lot of hair you want to lose forget Ubuntu. As Fruitbat says its specs re RAM and hard drive are minimal. It would struggle to play Windows 7 as an OS. If it is for everyday use there are better value ones if you pay a bit more like this

If you just want to build one for fun that's fine but you will probably tire of it quite soon and wish you had spent a bit more

Intend use for following:

Web browsing
Skype (including video chat)
Streaming videos eg You Tube etc
Media storage - Pictures, Music, Videos
Media playback - Pictures, Music, Videos
Dowloading media eg Music/Video
Office appns eg Word/Excel (or Opensource equiv.)
Possibly video editing.
Not into gaming really.

I wouldn't contemplate video editing with it.

Off e-bay?
