I have a bt broadband voyager 220 adsl I want to connect it to my laptop by cable (wired) as I have only 1 Ethernet connection on my router how do I do it

You plug the ethernet cable into your laptop.

If, however, what you want to know is how can you connect both your laptop and another pc at the same time, then you need a hub or router. You could also replace the 220 with an adsl modem router that has more than 1 ethernet port.
